Gap Analysis: Student Factors

Student Performance

The purpose of the “gap analysis” is to identify:

  1. critical questions that need to be answered to provide effective, evidence-based education (what we need to know)
  2. existing information that answers these questions (what we do know)
  3. “gaps” in the knowledge base (what we don’t know)

The Student Factors GAP analysis is meant to be an evolving document, as more questions and answers are identified. It starts with two basic, yet critical, questions:

What do students need to learn?

How is student performance measured?

Data regarding each question is organized into factors:

What do students need to learn?

educational standards
content
curriculum
success in society

How is student performance measured?

graduation rates
standardized tests
curriculum based measurement
grades
expulsion/drop out rates
