Gap Analysis: System Factors

Systems.gif

The purpose of the “gap analysis” is to identify:

  1. critical questions that need to be answered to provide effective, evidence-based education (what we need to know)
  2. existing information that answers these questions (what we do know)
  3. “gaps” in the knowledge base (what we don’t know)

The Systems Factors GAP analysis is meant to be an evolving document, as more questions and answers are identified. It starts with four basic, yet critical, questions:

What are the critical outcomes for systems?

How are these outcomes evaluated?

How are these outcomes achieved?

How are these outcomes sustained?

Data regarding these questions is organized into factors:

Stakeholders

principals
unions
school boards
governments
parents
teachers
students

Governance

policies
regulations
laws

Culture

demographics
health & safety
ongoing training
selection
performance pay

Models

schools
student services
interventions

Resources

facilities
funding
